Precluded Occupations

These are a number of jobs that are considered incompatible with the role of a Special Constable at Humberside Police.

Please ensure that your current occupation does not prevent your application from proceeding. You should not complete an application to join Humberside Police Special Constabulary, if you work in any of the below roles.

• Serving Members of HM Armed Forces.*
• Members of Royal Auxiliary Air Force.
• Royal Navy Auxiliary Service.
• Members of the fire service, unless written permission is provided by their Chief Officer.
• Traffic Wardens.
• Members of employers police forces and private constabularies.
• Magistrates.
• Employees of other emergency services (only eligible with written permission from their line manager).
• Clerks to justices and clerks to courts.
• Probation Officers.
• Custody Escort Officers.
• Youth/Social workers involved in the administration of Criminal Law.
• Bailiffs, Warrant Officers, Private Detectives and Inquiry Agents.
• Security Personnel, Guards and Doormen.*
• Employees of security organisations.*
• Neighbourhood and Street Wardens, including other uniformed Patrol Wardens.
• Police Community Support Officers (PCSO).
• Prison Custody Officers (only eligible with written permission from their Prison Governor).
• A local authority parking wardens.
• Persons taking an active part in politics.*
• Highways Agency Traffic Officers (including traffic officers who are employed by other organisations such as, Vehicle and Operators Services Agency).
• Border/Immigration Officers.
• Customs Officers.
• Barristers, Solicitors and Judges of Criminal Law.
• Members of Police Authorities OPCC.
• Licensing Enforcement Officers.
• Transport Network Revenue Protection Inspectors.
• Local Authority Field Officers i.e. Trading Standards Officers
• Civilian Enforcement Officers.
• Vehicle Removal Officers.

*Some categories of people who have certain Armed Forces Reserve Liabilities, may, with the permission of their Armed Forces Record Office, be able to apply. Members of the ‘regular’ Armed Forces are ineligible to apply.

**Security Officers who are employed directly by the company that operates the premises, may be eligible to apply but only under th Employer supported Policing Scheme (ESP). Please check with your employer whether they support ESP. Employees who hold an SIA license are ineligible to apply.

***Should you take an active part in supporting at local elections, polling stations, please check your application eligibility with the recruitment team prior to your application. If you are an active member of a proscribed organisation, you are ineligible to apply.
