The ‘what3words’ system simplifies how emergency services can accurately pinpoint locations when searching for scenes and missing people.
When calling 999 in an emergency people can often struggle to describe their location. Using ‘what3words’ helps them say exactly where they are, saving precious response time.
There is also a ‘what3words’ app, which if downloaded, means the caller can provide their location instantly.
The app works offline, so it’s ideal for use in rural areas with unreliable data connection.
It’s really easy, you just download the app and then you can go on to it and search for any location and it will give you a three word address for that location.
If you’re ever in a situation where you need help from the emergency services to get to you quickly you can then go on the app, find your 3 word address and give that to the call handler and they can look up exactly where you are.
The address will apply to a 3m square location so it means we can pinpoint exactly where someone is and send someone there.
