HULL

A violent man who stabbed his neighbour following an argument at an address in Hull has been sentenced to 14-years in prison.

Witold Adam Kaleta, 61-years-old, of Malm Street, Hull was charged with attempted murder and was remanded into custody following the attack on Saturday 27 April 2024.

Appearing at court in May 2024 for an initial hearing, Kaleta pleaded guilty to the offence. He appeared at Hull Crown Court on Tuesday 15 October, where he was sentenced to 14-years behind bars.

On Saturday 27 April officers were called to attend Malm Street in Hull at around 9.45am following reports that a woman had been stabbed inside a communal block of flats.

Upon arrival at the scene, the woman was found in the street and she had sustained three stab wounds to her back and arm, she was conveyed to hospital to receive treatment.

Despite her injuries, she was able to describe her attacker to emergency services. Subsequently Witold Kaleta was identified and was still inside the property.

A scene guard was put in place and for the safety of the public, armed officers were swiftly deployed to the area to conduct a search of Kaleta’s address.

Upon entering the property, officers discovered a knife covered in blood before locating Kaleta inside and arresting him on suspicion of attempted murder.

Officer in the case, Detective Constable Jo Palmer said: “Kaleta is a violent individual who targeted his neighbour in her own home with one motive – to cause her significant harm.

“Fortunately, the woman made a full recovery from her injuries, but this doesn’t take away the trauma and suffering she has had to live with since the attack and this will undoubtedly stay with her for the rest of her life.

“I’d like to thank the members of the public who came to the woman’s aid at the scene before emergency services arrived.

“Kaleta was completely reckless, and I am reassured that he is now behind bars and no longer poses a risk to the wider community.

“I hope this sentencing serves as a stark warning to anyone else considering committing such horrendous crimes. Violent crime will not be tolerated, and we will always do everything we can to seek justice for victims to ensure our communities feel safe and criminals are punished.”
