Appeal for witnesses to serious incident on Railway Street, Grimsby

We are investigating a serious incident that happened on Railway Street in Grimsby shortly after midnight on Sunday 10 March 2019.

A woman has reported that she was raped as she walked home. She was approached from behind by a man described as in his 20s, around 5’8” tall of slim build wearing a dark jacket and jeans.

We are reviewing CCTV images and have arrested a man in connection with the incident.  However, we are asking for anyone who has information about this incident, if you heard or saw anything suspicious that night that would help with our enquiries please call us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 22 10/03/19.

We have increased police patrols in the area and do not want to alarm the local community but are offering some useful advice to help keep people safe when walking alone.

  • Stay alert – be aware of your surroundings
  • Leave venues or work with friends wherever possible
  • Only use licenced taxis
  • Try to stay in well-lit areas.
  • Be confident and walk with purpose
  • Take the most direct route and try to stay within areas where other people are around.
  • Trust your instincts – if you think something is wrong then act on it.
  • Have your keys available when you reach your home or car.
  • Carry a personal alarm and use it if necessary.
  • Report anything suspicious to the police on 101 – in an emergency always call 999
