Following three separate incidents of wheelie bins being set on fire on one evening in Scunthorpe, we want to offer advice to householders about how to keep your bins and property safe and prevent similar incidents happening to you.
Three incidents happened on Wednesday 13 February on Burringham Fields, Wootton Court, and West Common Lane between 7.15pm and 8.30pm.
No-one was hurt but the fire service were called out to attend. We suspect that the bins were set alight on purpose.
Community beat manager PC Alex Walker said: “These incidents in Westcliff were fortunately dealt with very quickly and on these occasions no-one was hurt and no properties were damaged.
“My officers conduct regular patrols in the area and are gathering evidence to find out who may be responsible for these incidents. Please contact us with any information if you think you can help.
“I’d advise residents to protect their properties by making sure that any bins that can be made secure, are made secure.
“If bins are damaged, replacements can cost anything between £24 and £36 to replace. A full set can cost £60. Please keep your bins safe.
“We have PCSOs who are available to speak with and who can offer advice at the Arc on Lichfield Avenue on Tuesdays and Thursday between 10am and midday.
“You can always contact us on the non-emergency number of 101 or in an emergency dial 999.”
