Newington and Gipsyville

Welcome to the Newington and Gypsyville neighbourhood policing team

We begin 2021 with a sense of renewed optimism looking forward to the year ahead and the opportunities it may present.  We remain very aware of the impact that the current Covid-19 public health emergency is placing on individuals, families and our communities as a whole across the Newington and Gipsyville Ward.  With the ever changing situation, we remain resolute in our commitment, effort and energy, continuing to plan and work with community groups and our partners across the Public Sector, to reduce the impact of Covid-19 on our local communities and to keep you all safe.

In the Newington and Gipsyville ward the vast majority of you have been doing what’s right for a long time, following the government guidelines to help reduce the spread of Coronavirus and keeping one another safe. We continue to use the 4E’s approach to policing Covid-19; engage, explain, encourage and finally enforce the regulations where applicable. You may have seen on our social media channels and in the local media that in recent weeks we have seen an increase in house parties and larger gatherings. Where there have been clear breaches of the regulations we have taken proportionate and necessary action, issuing appropriate fines to individuals. As vaccination roll out continues across health care settings in (area/s) you will see your local officers in attendance, providing reassurance around key vaccination sites.

Regardless of Covid 19, our policing focus remains to protect the most vulnerable, keep people safe and to respond to serious crime. Our neighbourhood policing activity will continue to be focused on maintaining our core operational duties and delivering our Neighbourhood Policing Strategy. The provision of highly visible and locally connected neighbourhood policing teams remain the foundation of our force operating model.

Details

Environmental issues on The Shires

Work is continuing on The Shires to improve the area.

Absolutely Cultured have painted the mural on the wall at the end of the streets.   There has also been a number of 'Bring Out Your Rubbish' days to clean up the area.

Anti Social Behaviour and Criminal Activity on Hamphire Street

We are aware of a number of reports of drug related activity and ASB in The Shires area of the ward.  We are working with partner agencies and are patrolling the area on a regular basis.  A drug warrant has recently been executed on Hampshire Street to disrupt activity.

We would encourage the community to report any issues by calling us on 101 (non emergency number) , CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111 or by emailing the Local Police Team.  We need your continued support to help us idenify those responsilbe for causing harm within your community.

ASB in West Park

New lighting has now been installed.

We have identified a number of youths as responsible for causing anti social behaviour within the park.  This has been followed up with visits to their home address or referrals submitted to local partners for additional support or sanction.  Community youth groups are attending the park on a weekly basis to engage and provide activities for the youths and divert from criminal behaviour.

At the start of the year there was an issue with small fires within the park.  This issue has now subsided and work is now under way to prepare the park for Hull Fair.  Additional temporary lighting has been installed near the outdoor gym and basket ball court to create a safer environment.  Calls for service have significantly decreased.

Nuisance Vehicles on Wiltshire Road Car Park

Due to an increased number of calls regarding nuisance motor vehicles on Wiltshire Road car park we have increased regular patrols on the car park to deter activity.  We have engaged with groups and given appropraite warning advice regarding use of the car park.   We have utilsed the Police Reform Act for those identified as responsilbe for using a vehicle in an anti social way.  We are also working with key partners to long term solve the issue.
