Sandi Starfish is Coast to Coast initiative working alongside community members as part of the “Sandi” network to support the prevention and reuniting of lost children and vulnerable adults with their parents and guardians.
Every year, Cleethorpes attracts visitors from all over the country. At times there are tens of thousands of people in the resort. It becomes all too easy to be separated from loved ones. The Sandi Starfish initiative aims to prevent these separations from occurring and reunite loved ones; should separation happen.
Lost people can be incredibly difficult to locate and often involves a significant number of agencies including the Police, RNLI, HM Coastguard and Beach Safety having a huge impact on resources, time and cost not to mention the tremendous worry of the lost person, their family and friends.
The initiative is designed as a simple way of preventing these types of incidents through education and visible meeting points.
The idea is simple!
Along the 3 mile stretch of the Cleethorpes coast there will be up to seven locations with tall flags displaying the distinct “Sandi Starfish” design printed on them.
The bright and fun flag design will form focal points for children and vulnerable adults. They will be easily recognisable locations where they can go if they are lost or confused.
Family and friends of children and vulnerable adults will be able to obtain a FREE “Sandi Starfish” wristband from different locations throughout the resort who will be displaying Sandi Starfish logos and posters. Important information can be written on the back of the wristband.
The “Sandi” on the flag and the “Sandi” on the wristband will form a visually connected reminder of a safe place to go.
Community members and businesses who have been specially selected as part of the “Sandi” network will place a flag outside of their venue when they are open and go about their daily business. If any person who needs help arrives at a flag - they will then go to speak to them.
