Chief Constable Judi Heaton QPM, re-joined the force in July 2024 as interim Chief Constable having previously retired from a career in policing spanning 30 years.
CC Heaton QPM originally joined policing in Humberside in 1991. She has experience in uniform, detective and corporate roles. In 2001, she transferred to Cheshire Constabulary before returning to Humberside in 2006. Following completion of the Strategic Command Course, CC Heaton QPM transferred to Police Scotland.
CC Heaton QPM retired as an Assistant Chief Constable in Police Scotland in 2021 with responsibility for Major Crime, Local Crime, Forensics and Biometrics, and held a National Police Chief’s Council ( NPCC ) portfolio during this time.
The Chief Constable has overall responsibility for organisational governance, leading the force, creating the vision and direction, and building public and organisational confidence. They are accountable to the local Police and Crime Commissioner for performance and delivery of effective and efficient policing services in relation to crime, major and critical incidents, and governance of the organisation.
