Humberside firms exhibiting at The Commercial Vehicle Show at Birmingham NEC are being warned of a scam being targeted at those taking part in the event.
PC Matt Fleming, from the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Cyber Crime Unit, said: “It has come to our attention that exhibitors may be targeted by online criminals.
“Some are being targeted by offenders trying to extort money from their victims by threatening to launch Distributed Denial of Service (DDos) attacks to prevent legitimate users accessing their websites.
“Others are claiming to be collecting outstanding money on behalf of the Commercial Vehicle show’s organisers.”
