A THIEF has been jailed for almost six years following a sneak-in burglary in Cleethorpes.
Joe Frost, 27, of Durham Road, Doncaster, admitted getting into his elderly victim’s home through an insecure door as the 74-year-old woman slept upstairs.
Once inside, he stole her handbag and car keys, driving away in her silver Peugeot 208. At the hearing at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday, June 26, he also admitted driving whilst disqualified.
The incident, which happened during the night of Friday, May 29, was a “third strike” offence from an offender said to have “a bad record for dishonesty and vehicle crime”.
He was jailed for four years and eight months for the burglary, 10 months consecutively for theft of a motor vehicle and four months consecutively for driving whilst disqualified.
The conviction comes following the launch of the Humberside Police Summer Burglary Campaign on Wednesday, July 1, which urges members of the public to ensure they do not provide tempting targets for thieves.
Residents are being asked to assist the force by keeping their properties secure, register property onto www.immobilise.com so it can be identified and returned if lost or stolen and by calling Humberside Police with information about criminality.
The public should call the police if they see people acting suspiciously in their community, if there is a burglary in progress or if they have details about those involved in criminality.
This can be done this using 999 in an emergency, 101 in a non-emergency or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
