Suspected poachers banned from county

East Riding: Two vehicles seized

7 Nov 2016

Two vehicles were seized and five suspected poachers issued with dispersal orders banning them from entering the East Riding of Yorkshire for 24 hours.

The orders were made by officers after officers received a number of reports from the public about groups of men and dogs in the area, including farms in Aldbrough and Welwick.

One group of five, seen to be travelling in a blue Subaru estate, were issued Section 35 dispersal notices and the vehicle was seized under Section 59.

A silver Vauxhall Frontera was also seized. However, six men said to be travelling in the vehicle were not located.

Wildlife Officer PC Julie Turrell said: “We actively take steps to raise awareness of all kinds of rural and wildlife crime and encourage the public to report any incident to us.

“With regard to hare coursing in particular - we are committed to pursuing those who participate in this cruel activity and have secured successful prosecutions this year for this offence.”
