Westwoodside: Public reassured over incident

Investigations are continuing in relation to a violent disturbance in Westwoodside, Doncaster, yesterday afternoon (July 7).

Officers remain in the area today to reassure the community and enquiries are ongoing.

A 44-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in police custody.

A second male, believed to be in his twenties, was taken to hospital with serious but none-life threatening injuries. He has also been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Det Chf Insp Rob Clark said: “We understand that the scale of the disturbance in and around the Westwoodside area yesterday afternoon will have caused concern for residents in the area.

“We would like to reassure the public that everything possible is being done to bring those responsible to justice.

“It is understood that all parties involved were known to each other.

“Two men were swiftly arrested on suspicion of attempted murder yesterday and our colleagues in South Yorkshire Police have dealt with incidents of criminal damage and public disorder within their jurisdiction, which are believed to be linked.

“Officers remain in the area at this time, carrying out reassurance patrols and conducting further enquiries.

“It is vital that anyone with information about the incident – in particular any vehicles seen in the area at the time – come forward.
