Increase in thefts from vehicles in the Sutton Park area

7 Apr 2021

Over the last few days we have received a number of calls reporting cars being broken into within the Sutton Park area of Hull.

Opportunist thieves have broken car windows and windscreens and stolen handbags, cash, phones and sat navs from cars in a number of recent incidents over the Easter weekend.

Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Stephen Hepworth said: “We have had a rise in this type of thefts from vehicles in the Sutton Park area recently.  We are investigating each of these offences but wanted local residents to be aware so that they can keep themselves and their property safe.

“We take all reports of this nature seriously and are focused on catching those responsible with daily patrols in the affected area.  Our local neighbourhood teams are out in their community working with residents to help keep them safe and talk to them about crime prevention too.

“I would advise car owners to be reminded of some key crime prevention advice to keep their vehicle locked and secure and never leave anything on show inside the car. Anything of value should be removed from the vehicle or stored away securely in your home.

“Opportunist thieves will cause hundreds of pounds worth of damage to a car window or windscreen just to reach in and steal a few pounds worth of property.  Keep it out of sight, keep it safe.

“If you see anything suspicious, or out of the ordinary, or see anyone who appears to be ‘scoping’ a property or car out, please call us straight away on our non-emergency number 101, if a crime is in progress or there is a risk to life, call 999.”
