Update following Hull Disorder

As autumn begins, courts across the country are continuing to process those responsible for last month’s widespread violence and chaos. The Humberside area is no exception, with 29 offenders having already been brought before the courts, found guilty and receiving custodial sentences for multiple offences, including violent disorder and assaulting an emergency worker during the Hull city centre disorder on Saturday, August 3.

Commenting on the court outcomes, Assistant Chief Constable Thom McLoughlin condemned the violent actions witnessed that day:

“There is no justification for the behaviour we saw in Hull – people wreaking havoc and terrifying our community. We have worked tirelessly to investigate these offences and ensure those responsible, face justice."

So far, 51 individuals have been charged, with more awaiting court appearances. ACC McLoughlin praised the relentless work of the Police Officers and Staff, not only in apprehending those responsible for the violence, but also for their work with local communities in maintaining public safety throughout the aftermath.

“Our officers ran toward the danger to protect the public, some of whom received significant injuries as a result. I am incredibly proud of their bravery and their commitment to protect the public, even in the face of such extreme aggression.  They are a credit to the communities they serve, and it is important that this is recognised.  Despite the violence, Humberside Police managed to maintain day to day business, both during the disorder and throughout the days after; responding to and investigating crimes of all natures, to ensure that the service we provide to our communities was not affected by those who were intent on causing harm.

He added “Humberside Police continue to investigate every crime with diligence, and we are determined to hold all of those responsible, to account." ACC McLoughlin urged victims of crime to come forward and report incidents, assuring the public that the police will always be there when needed.
