Keeping communities safe with summer-long operation: Operation Coastline

Planning a trip to the beach? Packing your beach bag with sun cream, sun hats and sun glasses? Gathering the pennies for the ice-cream van? If so, make sure to look out for our officers as Operation Coastline returns to our coastal regions and market towns this summer.

Following the launch of our new force-wide initiative in May, we are excited to announce that today, Monday 22 July, Operation Coastline has re-launched and will be back in action for the summer.

As the warmer weather approaches, our coastal and market towns will start to see an influx of tourists to the area. As part of this, over the next six weeks, members of the public can expect to see officers from a variety of teams out and about conducting high visibility patrols, with a continued focus on engaging with those in the area and promoting conversations with our communities.

These teams include, local Neighbourhood Policing, Rural Task Force, Op Yellowfin, Patrol and our Community Safety Unit who will all be involved in high visibility patrols, engaging with those across the area to ensure our communities are safe from crime.

Superintendent Paul Butler said: “From today, Operation Coastline has re-launched to ensure our coastal and market towns remain safe from criminality that may be travelling into, and across, our force area throughout the summer period.

“We know that Humberside is a go-to location for many people, and we are fortunate to have such a wide variety of wonderful coastal areas and towns for residents and visitors from far and wide to enjoy.

“We all look forward to the warmer days and lighter nights, and our coastal areas will begin to see a surge in visitors as part of local tourism, which can also result in an increase of criminality, including antisocial behaviour, causing concern and distress for our local communities.

“To tackle this, we will be targeting our resources effectively to disrupt all types of criminal activity and members within our communities can expect to see an increased presence of officers across the area, out and about, patrolling hotspot locations and speaking to people to provide reassurance.

“We know that when the public acts as our extra eyes and ears, it helps us keep those attending our area safe from criminality, and we would always encourage you to report any offences to us so we can build the bigger picture and take action.”
