HULL
Following a demonstration that took place yesterday in Hull City Centre, 25 arrests have been made for varying offences including violent disorder, after a group of individuals attacked the city and our officers.
ACC Thom McLoughlin said: “The scenes we witnessed yesterday in Hull were utterly abhorrent and there is no place for this mindless behaviour in our city.
“These individuals have caused damage and fear, showing no compassion or respect and without a single thought being given as to the damage they have caused to the wellbeing of our community.
"They were intent on acting like thugs and there is no place for them across Hull or the Humberside force area.
"They are a minority and do not represent the people in the area – indeed most of the public are disgusted with them. We have seen a real sense of community pulling together today in helping clear the area alongside the local authority and other partners.
“We had eleven officers injured, some of which have since required hospital treatment.
“The mindless violence and vandalism of the individuals involved in the attacks on our streets yesterday is unfathomable, but I cannot stress strongly enough, that we will not stand for thuggish behaviour and whilst we have made 25 arrests, I would like to reassure the communities that more arrests will follow.
“There are numerous clips and videos circulating on social media that are greatly assisting our enquiries and are being extensively viewed. We have identified a number of individuals and arrest attempts will be made to bring them into custody, where they belong.
“I would continue our appeal to anyone who has any information, dashcam or mobile footage relating to any of the disorder, to please call us on 101 quoting Operation Executive.
“Information can also be passed directly to the investigation team and will be dealt with in the strictest confidence through the Major Incident Public Portal:
Public Portal (mipp.police.uk)
“I want to offer our communities the assurance that we do have officers in the city centre over the coming days, both to offer reassurance and to gather information.
“We are now calling for calm and I appeal to people to please avoid speculating online, as to do so may add fuel to further unease and ultimately lead to more outbreaks of violence.
“The only way that we can defeat this is by working together to ensure that all decent law-abiding members of our community are protected.”
