Distraction burglary warning

Scunthorpe - incident in Messingham

7 Feb 2018

We are investigating a reported distraction burglary at a property in Brigg Road Messingham on Monday 29 January.

A man called at the address around 1:10pm last Monday wearing a high vis jacket stating he had been asked to repair the neighbour’s fence and asked to come in to discuss the work.  The resident allowed the man into his property and they had a discussion about the work to be undertaken following which the workman quickly  left the address.

A short time afterwards, the resident realised that a large quantity of cash was missing from his home.

The man who came into the victim’s home is described as being white, aged in his 40s or 50s with a moustache and wearing a high vis jacket.

We are making residents in the area aware of this incident and advising them to be vigilant to bogus callers or rogue traders.

See our advice and only open the door when you are certain a caller is legitimate.
