The provision of lockers places a substantial burden on the force estate and creates a significant administrative workload in ensuring that lockers are properly controlled and made available to officers and staff.
This policy outlines who and the circumstances under which locker provision will be granted.
To ensure that lockers are available for those staff who need them and minimise the impact of locker provision on the force estate; the force will adhere to the following policy.
Police Officers, uniformed Police Staff and Special Constables.
To ensure that lockers are available for those staff who need them and to minimise the impact of locker provision on the force estate; the force will adhere to the following guidelines:
1. Only Police Officers, uniformed Police Staff and Special Constables will be provided with lockers.
1.1. Police Officers, Special Constables and PCSOs will be provided with one locker only which will be either full height 450 x 600mm or half height 600 x 600mm, dependent upon availability on site.
1.2. Where Police officers or Police Staff are seconded or on temporary duty they will be issued with a locker at one location only.
1.3. Police Officers undertaking the following specialist roles will be provided with two lockers:
1.4. Uniformed Police Staff will be provided with a locker. This provision may be half/third/quarter locker subject to availability on the site.
1.5. Non-uniformed Police Staff are not provided with a locker. At some sites, however, coin operated lockers may be provided for temporary daily use only.
1.6. Police Staff who are not entitled to a locker but have a requirement for storage of medical or religious items should liaise with Business Support to arrange provision.
1.7. Before locker keys are issued all Force locker records will be checked to ensure that officer/staff do not hold lockers at other locations. If they do, these lockers must be cleared, and the keys returned before another locker is issued.
1.8. Batches of lockers and keys will not be issued to specific teams for their local control. The only exception to this is Force Control Room at Melton 2.
1.9. Staff will be charged £5 for lost or missing locker keys to cover the cost of replacing the missing key.
1.10. All lockers will be allocated and keys issued by local Business Support Officers in adherence to this policy.
