FOI.23.004366.Q - Enquiry re Breeds of Police Dogs

As a freedom of information request, I am seeking information as to which canine breeds are used for different tasks within the police forces in the UK.

Specifically what breeds and how many of each breed do you use/have for:

1. Search and Rescue
2. Detection
3. Apprehension
4. General Patrol Dogs
5. Other (please specify)

The Freedom of Information Act requires that this request is dealt with in a manner that is motive and applicant blind. A disclosure under this legislation is considered a disclosure to the world and is considered to be on the basis that it is in the public interest.

This response is unique to Humberside Police, and you are advised not to compare this like for like with any other force’s response you receive.

Following liaising with the relevant department the following information can be disclosed:

1. Not applicable
2. 2 x Labradors for explosive detection, 2 x spaniels for victim recovery, 1 x spaniel for drugs and 5 x Labradors for drugs
3. German shepherds and Malinois, 12 x Malinois and 3 x GSD
4. As above
5. Not applicable

However, the systems used for recording these figures are not generic, nor are the procedures used locally in capturing the data.
