Humberside Police - protecting communities, targeting criminals

Local Safeguarding Children Board

It is a requirement of the Children Act 2004 that each Children's Service authority in England establishes a Local Safeguarding Children Board by the 1st April 2006. Local Safeguarding Children's Boards (LSCB) are the key statutory mechanism for agreeing how organisations working with and providing services for children in each local area will co-operate to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and to ensure the effectiveness of the work done for that purpose. The Core function of the Local Safeguarding Children Board Regulations 2006 set out in the LSCB Regulations 2006.

Hull Safeguarding Children Board

The safeguarding children board brings together representatives from different agencies who work with children, so that everyone can work together to keep children safe from harm.

What do we mean by harm?

  • Physical harm, such as physical assaults like kicking, punching or burning.
  • Neglect, such as leaving children on their own, not feeding or looking after them properly.
  • Sexual harm, which is usually inappropriate sexual behaviour by an adult towards a child.
  • Emotional harm, which is when adults do or say things to children that make them feel frightened or unloved.

Hull Safeguarding Children Board works hard to keep children safe.

We do this by:

  • working to make sure that children grow up in a safe, nurturing environment
  • targeting certain groups of people who might be more vulnerable
  • protecting children who are suffering or are at risk of suffering harm

Our work involves helping people to recognise the signs of abuse and neglect, among many other things. One of the main aims we work for is getting the message across that keeping children safe is everyone's responsibility.
