Stuart Donald QPM, Assistant Chief Constable (Operations)

Stuart Donald joined Humberside Police as a police officer in 1985. He spent the early years of his service working as a detective in Hull and specialist in the Force Drug Squad. He has been commended four times.

He was promoted to Superintendent in 1999 and has held operational command roles in each of the four police divisions of Humberside Police. He has also commanded the Traffic and Training Units, been head of Operations and conducted an external disciplinary investigation for the IPCC.  He is an experienced firearms and public order commander and operated as a negotiator until appointment as a chief officer.

As Chief Superintendent he worked regionally to improve protective services collaborative arrangements and in 2006 he was appointed BCU Commander for North Lincolnshire. He is a graduate of the 2007 Strategic Command Course and in May 2008 he took up his current role as Assistant Chief Constable, assuming responsibility for territorial policing across Humberside Police.   

Stuart is a member of the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) Roads Policing business area with responsibilities connected to the 2012 Olympic Games and also a member of the Local Policing and Partnerships business areas. He drafted the guidance for the Policing Pledge and was responsible for introducing it across the police service. He is currently the ACPO national lead for Neighbourhood Policing.

During his career he has gained a degree (BA) in Applied Social Science and a Masters degree (MA) in Criminology from the University of Hull. He is a school governor and trustee of a number of charities. He has provided guest lectures on policing at the University of Hull, Bramshill Police Staff College and RAF College Cranwell. He is an assessor at the Senior Police National Assessment Centre for the selection of chief police officers and external examiner for Canterbury Christchurch University, Kent.

He was awarded the Queens Police Medal for distinguished service in the 2011 Queens Birthday Honours list.

He is married with two teenage sons and lists his interests as supporting and sponsoring their leisure activities, watching Hull City, walking and photography.
