Would You Volunteer for Humberside Police?
There are approximately 36 Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPT's) throughout the Humberside Police region. A large number of these NPT’s did not have front counter offices open to the public. It was the original aim of the scheme to staff these NPTs with Police volunteers in order that they may be opened to the public at agreed times on a roster basis
The concept of utilising volunteers within the police was not a new one what was a new innovation however, was the introduction by HANWaG (Humberside Association of Neighbourhood Watch Groups) working in partnership with Humberside Police, of a series of Accredited training courses designed to equip volunteers with the skills and abilities to provide a high quality of service to the community within their NPT stations.
Things have changed and today the Volunteers program is run by Humberside Police and the works that volunteers can do is dependant upon you as a Volunteer and what you can bring to the job. If you was interested in volunteering there are hundreds of opportunities open to you - it literally depends on your skills, abilities, aspirations and time you have available. Yes we have opportunities to man the front desk, but this is only the tip of the ice-berg! It literally is a case of seeing what you would like to do and we will look at how best we can utilise them.
We have Volunteers from many diverse backgrounds but what is more important to us is what they can bring to Humberside Police. Whether you have time on your hands or a skill that we can utilise or if you are just interested in working with the Police - let us hear from you!
What are volunteers?
Volunteers are unpaid workers who assist in the diverse roles predominantly alongside Neighbourhood Policing Teams. Volunteers are extremely important to the force, they help to develop neighbourhood policing and therefore help us engage and interact more effectively with our local communities. Making our communities safer is something that everyone can help do. Its not just about policing, there is a huge need for a new injection of Voluntary help and we are looking for people of all ages, races, genders and educational backgrounds to meet it.
What do volunteers do?
These roles can be anything from Front Desk Duties, recording lost and found property, taking minutes at meetings, administration work, call back (victims) and many more. It is more a case of let us know what you can do and we will see how this can be accommodated - the options are limitless.
What is the training?
There will be an induction course followed by specific training for specific roles, but you will be supported throughout your induction period - up until a time when you are more confident. Support is always there for you!
What happens at divisions?
Each volunteer will get training specific to the role they will be doing. The Divisional Coordinator will carry out the training on a one to one basis. The volunteer’s first point of contact will be the NPT Sergeant and thereafter it will be the Divisional Admin and the Coordinator.
Do you think you could be a volunteer?
Volunteers come from all backgrounds and walks of life and the only restriction that we have is that you have to be 16 years of age and have left secondary education. You will have to pass the standard force vetting process and an interview process, but otherwise - the more Volunteers the better.
Volunteers are an essential part of the Extended Police Family and the contribution is vital to support the work of the Police Force.
How much time do I have to commit to?
The time you commit is literally up to yourself - 1 hour+ - we will be delighted to have you. This time could change depending on your personal circumstances but so long as we see you on a regular basis, then we are quite flexible.
What do I get out of Volunteering?
Each volunteer is different depending on your personal needs. What we can give you is:
- up to date work experience
- travel expenses to your place of work
- reimbursement of meals depending on hours of work
- an opportunity to work with Humberside Police and be a part of an Extended Police Family
- potential to progress for other vacancies within the Force
- use your skills or update them or even acquire new skills
- be part of an exciting Police Team who values all of their staff.
