Insurance and Security marking Bikes
It is definitely worth considering insuring your bike against cycle theft, and registering or security marking it.
When you take out any insurance policy, it is important that you make sure you understand what you are covered for and that you read the fine print.
Security marking for your bike - This can help prove the bike is yours if it is stolen and then found by the police.
Humberside Police recommend that you register your bike on IMMOBILISE property register and ideally fit an IMMOBITAG device linked to the register.
The IMMOBILISE register is used by Humberside Police to reunite stolen goods to their owners and is a nationwide scheme, so if you bike is stolen and found by a police force elsewhere in the country, you stand a good chance of it being returned to you. Registration is free and for about £5 you can get a non-removable sticker for your bike to show it’s registered. You are also able to register other items of property with a serial number, and it is therefore useful for registering electronic goods and mobile phones.
A slightly more expensive, but worthwhile, option is to have an electronic tag fitted to your bike. The IMMOBITAG is registered on the IMMOBILISE property register and is recommended by Humberside Police. The tag is tiny and fits inside the frame of your bike and is detectable by the police using a scanner.
