Riverside Neighbourhood Policing Team given new powers to tackle disorder around Queens Gardens, Hull

A dispersal order giving Riverside Neighbourhood Policing Team powers to break up groups and take children home come into force in Hull on Monday 31 May 2010.

The order will run from Monday 31 May 2010 and Sunday 28 November 2010 applies to specific streets and areas around Queens Gardens in Hull.

The dispersalordercovers the area bordered by and including in whole or in parts of Wilberforce Drive, Alfred Gelder Street, Carr Lane, Chariot Street, Paragon Street, Queen Victoria Square, Saville Street, Dock Street and Queens Dock Avenue.

Humberside Police Officers and PCSOs are working with Hull City Council to address complaints from local businesses and visitors to the city centre, regarding groups in excess of two persons gathering, causing harassment, alarm and distress by using intimidating and threatening behaviour.

Sergeant Mick McLaughlin from Riverside Neighbourhood Police Team, said: "Those people who work, live and visit the city centre of Hull, should be allowed do so without their experience being ruined by the few who choose to act in an anti-social manner.

“The message to these people is that this behaviour will not be tolerated, those individuals who persist will be arrested and dealt with through the criminal justice system. Our intention is to create a safe and pleasant environment within the city centre for all decent law abiding citizens to enjoy.

“Securing the dispersal order should also show the public that the authorities together to reduce anti-social behaviour in Hull City Centre.”

The orderis introduced under Section 30 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003 in relation to the dispersalof groups and removal of persons under 16 to their places of residence.
