Humberside Police - protecting communities, targeting criminals

North Holderness April update

April information

Hornsea Update

Unfortunately grafitti has reared its ugly head in Hornsea once again in recent days.  This is somewhat unusual in that it is an offence normally linked to the darker nights which provide offender[s] with cover for their “handywork”.  It is certainly not a trend we’d expect to start in Spring.  The main areas targeted to date are Witty’s Passage and the town centre around Market Place and Mereside.

We will be looking to step up patrols in the affected area both to deter/catch offenders and reassure residents.   We will also be publicising the issue in the local press and would ask that if anyone has any information as to the identity of those responsible they contact us here at Hornsea Police Station.

A large number of thefts have been reported from Hornsea Primary School on Newbegin.   All the incidents relate to cash being stolen from unattended bags/purses belonging to staff during school opening hours.   The CID are making enquiries into the incident,it is suspected the offences have all been committed by one perpetrator having legitimite access to the building.   It is a timely reminder to safeguard all your valuables at all times.
Although it appears only cash was stolen on these occasions most peoples bags/purses also contain bankcards, driving licences, mobile phones, family photos, house keys etc.

Apart from the hassle of getting bankcards cancelled, changing locks etc imagine how you’d feel if photos of loved ones (some of whom may no longer be with us) were taken.   Such photos are worthless to the thief but of infinite value to the victim and often irreplaceable.

Rural Update

A shed burglary occurred overnight on East Lane,Sigglesthorne.    The wooden door was forced and a pedal cycle stolen.   The victims neighbour later found the cycle abandoned nearby in a dyke on Goxhill Lane,it has been recovered intact and undamaged.

A green wheelie bin was stolen from a property on Bewholme Lane.   It was subsequently replaced by the council.  Thereafter bagged rubbish left in the new bin awaiting collection by the refuse collectors was mysteriously removed by person(s) unknown. This incident is as much a mystery to us as it is the householder!!

During one day a 69yr old male resident at Willow Garth,Rolston assaulted three other residents.    In the first incident he pushed a 77yr old female to the floor resulting in a minor head injury.    Hours later he attacked a 53yr old male and 70yr old female by punching them both to the head, fortunately neither sustained any injury.

This aggressive behaviour was out of character for the offender and believed linked to the fact that he was refusing to take his prescribed medication for diabetes/schizophrenia and had been for some time.
All of the victims have mental health issues some so severe that they do not have the capacity to go through the process of making formal complaints.
In the end the offender was sectioned under the Mental Health Act and conveyed through to alternative accommodation at Miranda House in Hull which clearly resolves the issue and prevents further problems.

A wooden garden shed was entered on East Lane,Sigglesthorne after offender[s] unscrewed the hinges and physically lifted the door off, nothing was believed stolen.
