My Neighbourhood
Neighbourhood Policing is essentially about being visible and accessible to the communities we police, so they know who we are and how we can be contacted. The communities themselves are now more involved with identifying the priorities they want us to focus on. The neighbourhood teams work with them and partners to provide sustainable results. This allows neighbourhood teams to build trust and confidence within the community improving the perception of the police and partnership services and reducing the fear of crime. It is important that neighbourhood policing is not just about tackling low level crime and disorder. Intelligence gleaned by neighbourhood teams will help support crime investigations and initiate general patrol strategies.
As the lead for Humberside Police on neighbourhood policing, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to this web page and provide you with some information about what we are trying to achieve in delivering this important aspect of policing
What is a Neighbourhood Policing Team?
Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPT) involve Police Officers, Police Community Support Officers, Special Constables, Police Staff, Volunteers and in some areas, Neighbourhood Wardens who work together as an integrated team to tackle the issues that concern members of the community in that neighbourhood.
Where do they work?
We have worked very hard with the Police Authority to have the right people in the right place, at the right time and in the right numbers so now neighbourhood policing teams operate in every community in the Humberside Police area.
Neighbourhood Policing and the Policing Pledge
Humberside Police is committed to delivering the national Policing Pledge in every neighbourhood across the policing area in a customer-focused way, which is relevant and appropriate for the communities within that neighbourhood.
In order to continually improve the service we deliver to you and to keep you safe and feeling safe, there is an individual web page for every neighbourhood in the Humberside Policing area.
This means that you can discover a wealth of information about your community, including meeting dates, names and photographs of your officers, station opening times, how to contact us and crucially provide you with information about what we are doing about the things which you have said are most important to the community and an opportunity to influence the way we police your community and how you can get involved.
What are the aims of neighbourhood policing?
We aim to provide people who live or work in a neighbourhood with:-
- Access - to local policing services through a named point of contact
- Influence - over policing priorities in their neighbourhood
- Interventions - joint action with partners & the public
- Answers - sustainable solutions & feedback on what is being done.
This means that neighbourhood teams:-
- publicise how to get in touch with them;
- find out what the local issues are that make people feel unsafe in their neighbourhood and ask them to put them in order of priority;
- decide with partners and local people what should be done to deal with those priorities and work with them to deliver the solutions; and
- let people know what is being done and find out if they are satisfied with the results.
How is neighbourhood policing delivered?
The way that neighbourhood policing is delivered will vary in different areas, as it is designed to be flexible and responsive to local needs and resources, but it will be delivered by your local team and partner agencies together with local communities.
How will communities help?
Through the ongoing process of tackling the most important issues, effective consultation and feedback, it is hoped that the communities themselves, with the help and support of the police, partners and volunteers, will personally contribute to improving neighbourhoods and increasing community pride, trust and confidence.
How can you help?
Please attend local meetings and contact your local neighbourhood officer to discuss any areas of concern or to see how you can help. You are now able to log into your neighbourhood policing page and see what is happening in your community and how you can get in touch with your team?
