Rock Challenge

Rock Challenge is an exciting performing arts competition, aimed at raising awareness of the dangers or drugs, alcohol and tobacco as students achieve a natural 'drug free high' through performing at some of the regions most prestigious venues.

Background

Humberside Police brought Rock Challenge to the region 14 years ago as an international performing arts competition for schools and colleges, focusing upon on driving home positive messages about substance misuse and crime prevention by providing young people with the opportunity to experience a ‘drug free high’.

This year alone, over 6,300 students from 81 schools took part in the Humberside Police Rock Challenge.  Nineteen of these are Junior schools as the junior element of the competition grows, capturing the imagination of young people giving more local youngsters the opportunity to experience the buzz and excitement of performing in a professional venue in front of their peers, families and friends whilst raising their confidence and aspirations.

We challenge each school to create an 8 minute dance/drama performance based on a theme of their choice set to contemporary music.  The young people take responsibility for choreography, set design, lighting, costumes and hair and make-up with amazing results.
