Welcome to Howden
The dedicated Neighbourhood Policing Team is based at the Police Station in Howden and forms part of the larger Goole, Howden and Pocklington Team.
The area is covered by Neighbourhood Police Officer(s) and Police Community Support Officer(s) as shown below. They are supported by dedicated Incident Response Staff and a number of Special Constables.

Getting in touch with us
If you wish to raise any comments or concerns you can do so in a variety of ways such as:
• Attending local meetings:-
Police Surgery. An opportunity for you to meet privately with a member of the neighbourhood team to discuss any policing issue of concern. This is a drop-in event so you may have to wait a few minutes.
Police and Communities Together Meeting. This is a public meeting where the police and other public authority representatives will be present. Its main purpose is to determine what the local priorities for action over the next three moths will be. It gives members of the public an opportunity to raise their concerns and influence those decisions.
Street Briefing. The whole neighbourhood team will be briefed on current problems in the area and tasked to deal with them. The public can meet with the officers and be informed about how they can help with these issues.

Anti-social behaviour, Carter Street, Howden
Howden Neighbourhood Policing Team have recently received a small number of calls reporting anti-social behaviour around the area of Carter Street, Howden. The reports have included some general anti-social behaviour and incidents of youths playing in and around the building site.
Our Police Officers and Police Community Support Officers will continue to patrol the area at relevant times they will take positive action against any persons engaging in anti-social behaviour or criminal activity.
Anti-social behaviour is tackled in conjunction with East Riding of Yorkshire Councils and the local schools. Parents of local youths are also asked to be vigilant and know where there children are who they are with and what they are doing at all times.
It is also essential for parents to advise their children about the dangers of trespassing on building sites. Young people need to remember that building sites are fenced off for a reason. Bricks and pipes might fall on them or they might fall into hazardous chemicals.

During November a local youth has been issued with a warning letter from the Anti-social behavior team following an incident on Carter Street.

Criminal Damage and Burglaries at Howden Minster
Since Friday 01 July 2011, the Howden Neighbourhood Policing Team have received reports of three acts of criminal damage and four burglaries at Howden Minster Church.
The first burglary occurred between 1145hrs on Friday 01 July 2011 and 0715hrs on Saturday 02 July 2011, when the offender illegally entered the vestry area and stole bottles of wine. Forensic investigation identified an 18-year-old local man as responsible for the offence and he was arrested and charged with burglary. The man was released on bail to appear at court in January.
The second burglary occurred between 2130hrs on Saturday 02 July and 0930hrs on Sunday 03 July 2011 when the offender illegally entered the Minster and stole a scooter which had been left there by a choir boy. A 14-year-old boy was identified as the offender when he was seen on the scooter. The boy was arrested and received a police reprimand for the offence.
Sergeant Joanne Matthews, Howden Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "Officers from Goole CID and the Howden Neighbourhood Policing Team are continuing to investigate the outstanding offences at the minster.
“These crimes are particularly despicable and local officers are working with the church to try and prevent further offences. Extra patrols are being carried out around the minster and local residents are asked to report anything suspicious in the area.
“I can assure the public that we will be doing everything we can to bring to justice the people who are committing these crimes. Our churches are part of our history and heritage and we will not tolerate mindless criminals that seek to cause damage and steal from within them.”

Underage drinking, The Ashes, Howden
Youths are continuing to congregate in the Ashes Playing Field on an evening, during September and October 11 youths had alcohol seized from them by Police Community Support Officers. In November a further 4 alcohol seizures were made by local Police Community Support Officers.
All local residents are reminded that The Ashes Playing Field has a designated no drinking area and nobody should be drinking alcohol in that area whatever their age.
As well as alcohol related problems which inevitably occur when youths drink there is also the issue of litter which is left behind this is unsightly and spoils peoples enjoyment of the park
Police Officers, Police Community Support Officers and Special Constables will continue to patrol the Ashes Playing Fields anyone seen drinking will be tackled, and alcohol will be seized.
Letters will be sent to parents of youths found with alcohol in their possession and those who continue to offend will be liable to prosecution.

Offenders Brought to Justice
At 01.00hrs on SUNDAY 06TH NOVEMBER 2011 a Vehicle was stopped by Police on Boothferry Road,Howden for an unrelated incident. On speaking to one of the males suspicions were aroused and the vehicle was searched. A green substance was found in the central console which was identified as cannabis. The male was arrested in connection with Possession of an Illegal Substance and he was issued with an £80 Penalty Notice for Disorder.
At 00.35hrs on SUNDAY 06TH NOVEMBER 2011 a male was spoken to on Boothferry Road,Howden. He remonstrated with Police Officers about losing his wallet. The Officers noticed a white powder around the male’s nose and he was then detained for a drug search. Whilst detained, the male started swearing and shouting at officers in front of members of the public. After being warned about his behaviour, the male carried on swearing and was arrested for a public order offence.
The male was issued with an £80 Penalty Notice for Disorder.
On SUNDAY 06TH NOVEMBER 2011 a male was stopped on Hailgate by police officers. The male was seen to drop a clear bag containing white powder which was identified as cocaine. The male was arrested for Possession of Controlled Drug.
The male admitted the offence and was issued a police caution.
On SUNDAY 30TH OCTOBER a male was stopped in his vehicle due to allegations of assault. The vehicle was searched and a small amount of a green leaf substance was found in a cigarette box in the driver’s console. This was identified as Cannabis. The male was arrested and admitted the offence. The male was issued with a formal warning.
Whilst on patrol, local Police Community Support Officers have seized alcohol from youths in the area and letters have been sent to their parents.

Early Turn Patrols
We use Police Community Support Officers, Special Constables and regular Police Officers to patrol set hot spots where disorder or crime may occur. This can change rapidly because the priorities are taken from the details you give us from the calls you make for service. We act on what you tell us is going on, so please ring in and report any crime or disorder that you may witness or that affects you.
During the day we will conduct high visibility patrols outside the schools and in busy areas. We will visit shopkeepers and offer crime prevention advice. The Police Community Support Officers will also visit victims of crime. Officers will be on Mobile Patrols in our rural areas in order to prevent and detect poaching offences. The team will also target areas where speeding has been reported as an issue and use detection equipment to educate and prosecute drivers.
Additionally, neighbourhood officers will attend reports of poaching that come in whilst the staff are on duty.
06July
Late Turn Patrols
During the evenings patrols will be conducted around the areas were anti-social behaviour has been reported and areas that are vulnerable to crime.
The neighbourhood team are also conducting high visibility patrols targeting areas vulnerable to vehicle crime.
The team visit rural and remote locations and will attend reports of rural crime when on duty.
