ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR – Springhead Lane / Big Hill and Anlaby playing fields - There is evidence of underage drinking antisocial behaviour and criminal damage. We will continue police patrols in the area and deal vigorously with anyone found in possession of alcohol. Legislation allows us to dispose of alcohol if it is in the possession of someone under 18, or if we believe someone over 18 intends to allow young people to drink it. We will send warning letters to the parents of anyone under 18 found in possession of alcohol. Those who ignore these warnings may be prosecuted for ‘persistent possession of alcohol by young people’. Those acting in an anti social way will have their details passed to the our partners at the East Riding ASB team, who will issue written warnings leading to antisocial behaviour contracts and ASBOs. This is a continuing priority.

NOVEMBER UPDATE
during November patrols have continued in this area. Two youths were challenged with alcohol which was seized and disposed of. Warning letters have been issued and our partners in the ASB team been updated. Checks conducted during the evenings and weekends have been conducted with no issues raised.
DECEMBER UPDATE
Regular police visits were made to the area throughout December with about 10 hours of patrol time spent here. There no incidents or reports.
The local authority has now been granted a ‘no drinking zone’ for the area known locally as ‘Big Hill’ off Springhead lane.
Signs will be going up soon to advise that it is now illegal to drink there and an offence to carry on drinking when ordered by police or support officers to stop.
This was driven by our local PCSO Chris Wary, who found during the summer that the area was popular with young people over 18 drinking there, causing a noise nuisance and a problem with littering.
JANUARY UPDATE
A total of 20 patrols of the area were carried out during January and the parents of ten young people received warning letters to advise then their child had taken part in antisocial behaviour there.
We will continue to patrol the area and it will remain a local policing priority.

ANTI SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR ON SYDNEY SMITH SCHOOL BUSES - We have been informed by the school and parents of anti social behaviour on school buses. Officers will be deployed at school bus times to carry out preventative patrols and reassure other bus users. Pupils found to be acting in an antisocial manner will be challenged and their conduct reported to our partners in the Anti Social Behaviour team at East Riding Council who will notify their parents and issue warning letters.

DECEMBER UPDATE
Our PCSOs and Special Constables followed school buses and found that some passengers were being abusive to pedestrians as they passed by. We then started to travel on the buses and worked with school staff to identify those responsible and to improve their behaviour. We also found two pupils removing seat cushions and throwing them at pupils from another nearby school as well as ripping seat coverings. Both these pupils were dealt with by police for criminal damage.
JANUARY UPDATE
There have been no new reported incidents and police patrols have not identified any further problems. We will continue to carry out regular patrols at school leaving times, but will now be removing this item from our local policing priorities.

Speeding at Springfield Way - The neighbourhood policing team receive many reports of speeding, received by officers on patrols, weekly police surgeries, attendance at parish council meetings and monthly NHW coordinators meeting, community survey forms, telephone and e-mail contact, and personal callers at Kirk Ella police box. Currently we are receiving complaints about the revised speed limit on Springfield Way being ignored by many drivers despite having been in place now for quite some time.

Our PCSOs and special constables will, at various times of the day, be using an interactive speed board this month.
The interactive display gives a large visual readout of the speed of approaching vehicles, clearly visible to the driver. Although accurate, the equipment used does not provide calibrated results that are accepted by the courts in prosecution, but drivers will receive a warning letter from the police.
The purpose of the survey is to educate drivers and change their behaviour in the same way as the very effective fixed interactive signs erected permanently by the local authority (West Ella Road, coming into West Ella from Swanland, for example).
Both the police and the local authority have the highest confidence in this approach to driver improvement.

NEWS ITEM

There have been 13 dwelling burglaries in this area since the beginning of October with a similar pattern. Most have been in Willerby but Anlaby has also had several offences.
Victims have been mostly elderly or infirm and the offender has gained entry via unlocked doors or open windows while the householder is inside, stealing cash or jewellery from the kitchen and bedroom areas before slipping out of the house unnoticed.
These offences have happened during the daytime or evening and I would encourage everyone to get into the habits of keeping their doors locked whilst in their homes, especially at the back of their property.

Offenders Brought to Justice November

On 3rd January a man had his car seized by police for driving with no insurance. He was stopped in Anlaby and was issued a fixed £200 fine.
The man will have to obtain suitable insurance to recover the car as well as pay the recovery and storage fees.

On 8th January Police were called to a domestic dispute at a home in Anlaby.
A man was arrested for assault and enquiries are on going. Humberside Police will always take positive action in domestic situations.

On 13th January a house party went terribly wrong when gate crashers caused a disturbance. A male youth was arrested for burglary and affray after leaving the house. It would appear that there were no adults at the house during the party. Enquiries continue.

On 14th January a man causing a disturbance outside his ex partner’s home was arrested for driving to the house whilst unfit. He had consumed a large quantity of alcohol before driving to the address. Enquiries are ongoing to establish exactly how much alcohol was present in his blood.

Local Schools

At 0900 and 15.30 hours each weekday – officers will be on patrol near to one of our schools – this to enable the public or parents access to the officers whilst they attend the schools morning and evening. This will also allow the officers to highlight any current issues surrounding the safety of children, vehicles parking inappropriately and causing obstruction.
