Farmland off the B1396 Westwoodside = Theft, Criminal Damage, Anti-social behaviour, off road bikes.

Calls for service to these areas saw an increase in recent months and centres in and around the B1396 including Pelfintax, Wroot Road, Idle Bank and Tindlebank and including private land owned by local farmers and others.
The times of reports vary throughout the 24 hour period. The calls include reports of theft including theft of cable, burglary, suspicious persons with dog(s), criminal damage and off road bikes. A considerable amount of work and liaison has been built between Neighbourhood staff and the owners and staff working on land to engage them and to identify where offences and offenders are committing these acts and routes they use. Off road bikes are still being used on land without permission and illegally.

UPDATE; There has been a decrease in calls involving farmland. There has been a reduction in the cable thefts, however as a division we are still experiencing this types of thefts. We would encourage any suspicious activity to be reported immediately to the police. Cable thefts affect the connection of phones, TV’s and broadband to name a few and can massively impact entire communities, isolating vulnerable people and in some cases limiting access to emergency services. At this time further legislation to enable the agencies to deal with offences is being sought through Parliament.

Humberside Police and energy suppliers are working together to collate and jointly investigate and prevent further offences occurring. Some suppliers are also working with surrounding police forces as these offences are not confined to Humberside. If at any time you become suspicious of any persons please telephone the police. It is far better that we know at the time in order that we can make checks and also to forward onto surrounding police areas as soon as possible, as it is quite usual for such people to frequent other areas during the course of their activities. Just because the people you see look like they are legitimate this may not be the case so Humberside police do encourage local communities to report anything that on the face of it does not appear normal.

We have leaflets which contain advice for parents and riders of the various bikes being used off road. Please contact PC Starbuck if you wish to have one delivered to you or you can call in at Epworth Police Station when the front counter service is available by a member of staff, generally on a Monday or Thursday during 0900 to 1500hrs, to avoid a wasted journey it may be prudent to call on 101 to check that the front desk service is running that particular day.

Calls for persons trespassing on land with dogs had dropped recently, but this does not mean we have seen the last of such persons. Countrywatch has seen an increase in numbers on the Isle and this is open to membership from farmers, landowners and other land users. This membership also includes access to a text messaging service which warns of information pertinent to those members, for example hare coursers, deer poaching, and theft. Anyone wishing to join please contact PC 1839 Starbuck for further information and an application form. We have now also got members joining from just outside the Humberside Police area and we encourage everyone to promote the scheme and new members are always welcome.

We are also looking at whether there is sufficient interest to launch a Horsewatch scheme to run alongside and under the banner of Countrywatch. It would involve attending a meeting in Epworth held every 3 months and other benefits to be finalised if interest is sufficient. If anyone is interested in becoming part of this please contact PC Tina Starbuck, details below
Any on-going matters or suspicious activity can be reported on the new Local police telephone number of 101 OR, if any information is to be passed then please feel free to e-mail the Neighbourhood team using the details below;-

Information for off road users;-

If you ride your off-road motor bike/vehicle off-road on the Isle of Axeholme, the chances are that you are breaking the law.

By following the guidelines the residents and Humberside Police will get off your back
and will be more supportive of your hobby.

Wroot Crime Prevention.

Calls for service to the village of Wroot saw a rapid rise in December, where offences included thefts and non dwelling burglaries over a period of time during the night.

UPDATE ; An initial neighbourhood watch meeting has been held with the villagers of Wroot and the Neighbourhood watch co-ordinator Mr Ken Bates which he has reported back stating it was well attended with residents offering their help. There is further work to be conducted between the village, police and Safer Neighbourhoods. There has also been an increase in calls made to the police regarding suspicious activity in the village and we encourage these calls to continue as the village has been subjected to a rise in crime and these types of calls do assist.

Patrol times & areas

01September

Farmland both sides of the B1396

To patrol the area when no other policing priority or calls for service in order to identify and deal with any offenders on off road bikes.

02February

Wroot Village

To default patrol at any hour of day and night.

Previous Priorities

April 2010

Priority 1:Nethergate, Westwoodside

Reports have been received that youths are frequenting this area of the village and in some instances causing damage to properties. The times of occurrence fall in the main of an evening and at weekends. Patrols will be in the area at the relevant times in order to provide public re-assurance, crime prevention and to identify and offenders and engage with young people in order to gain intelligence to prevent this type of occurrence happening.

Priority 2: Blackmoor Road / Lowcroft Ave / Marlborough Ave – Haxey

There have been reports in the past of youths behaving in an anti social manner in these areas. There has already been some success in tackling these problems and this will continue with regular patrols by officers in an evening to provide public re-assurance and challenge anti social behaviour.

Priority 3: West Butterwick Village Hall

reports have been received that the village hall area of West Butterwick is subject to nuisance including anti-social behaviour, damage some graffiti. Due to it’s location the hall is quite an attractive area for groups of young people to gather whilst not using the facilities provided by the hall and when the hall is closed. Patrols will be checking the area and would encourage people to be extra vigilant in particular whilst the dark nights are with us and to report matters to the police at the time they are noticed or if they have any information as to the identity of any offenders.
