St Andrews Church and St Andrews Ivy Hall, Epworth. Anti-social behaviour, criminal damage, depositing of litter.

Reports are being received that the locations are being frequented by youths and there has already been some damage caused. The building is in a quiet area and thus is attractive to youths congregating during the evening hours and particularly at weekends. St Andrews Ivy Hall is adjoining the car park, church, and play area and as such make it a particularly favourable during evening hours. Neighbourhood staff and incident response officers make regular patrols at the locations and any youths found behaving in a disorderly manner will be dealt with accordingly.

UPDATE; – On Friday 20 January Neighbourhood staff arrested one male for a public order offence and another male for Criminal Damage.

It would be beneficial for the young people to get involved and seek alternative recreational activities. If anyone wishes to become involved please contact any of the team detailed below.

We would also seek the co-operation of parents to be aware of where their children are frequenting and to encourage them not to congregate in large numbers in areas such as this as this affects the community as a whole. The youth club in Epworth does not allow the young people to come and go as they please when they attend the youth club and any members found out of then club during opening times will be returned to the youth club and parents informed. This is a safety issue and we would encourage this particularly with the dark nights upon us.

Anyone with any information or require any advice or guidance, please contact the Central Neighbourhood team by e-mail;-

Countrywatch Issues

Calls for service to areas of land both owned and used by the farming community have occurred including offences of Criminal Damage, theft, Poaching, off road bikes, trespassers on land with dogs. The times of reports vary throughout the 24 hour period. A considerable amount of work and liaison has been built between Neighbourhood staff and the owners and staff working on land to engage them and to identify where offences and offenders are committing these acts and routes they use. Off road bikes are still being used on land without permission and illegally.

UPDATE; If at any time you become suspicious of any persons please telephone the police. It is far better that we know at the time in order that we can make checks and also to forward onto surrounding police areas as soon as possible, as it is quite usual for such people to frequent other areas during the course of their activities. Just because the people you see look like they are legitimate this may not be the case so Humberside police do encourage local communities to report anything that on the face of it does not appear normal.

We have leaflets which contain advice for parents and riders of the various bikes being used off road. Please contact PC Starbuck if you wish to have one delivered to you or you can call in at Epworth Police Station when the front counter service is available by a member of staff, generally on a Monday or Thursday during 0900 to 1500hrs, to avoid a wasted journey it may be prudent to call on 101 to check that the front desk service is running that particular day.

Calls for persons trespassing on land with dogs had dropped recently, but this does not mean we have seen the last of such persons. Neighbourhood officers have submitted files for a total of 8 persons committing offences relation to poaching and we await their outcome from the judicial system. Countrywatch has seen an increase in numbers on the Isle and this is open to membership from farmers, landowners and other land users. This membership also includes access to a text messaging service which warns of information pertinent to those members, for example hare coursers, deer poaching, and theft. Anyone wishing to join please contact PC 1839 Starbuck for further information and an application form. We have now also got members joining from just outside the Humberside Police area and we encourage everyone to promote the scheme and new members are always welcome.
Any on-going matters or suspicious activity can be reported on the new Local police telephone number of 101 OR, if any information is to be passed then please feel free to e-mail the Neighbourhood team using the details below;-

Information for off road users;-

If you ride your off-road motor bike/vehicle off-road on the Isle of Axholme, the chances are that you are breaking the law.
Questions to ask yourself?
Where are you riding it? Are you allowed to ride there? How are you transporting the vehicle to the riding place?

􀁸􀀃 You Must Not: Ride on public land, parks, pavements and pathways
􀁸􀀃 You Must Not: Ride unlicensed bikes on public roads
􀁸􀀃 You Must: Always use a van or trailer to transport the off-road vehicle to the

By following the guidelines the residents and Humberside Police will get off your back
and will be more supportive of your hobby.

Previous Priorities

April 2010

Priority 1: Westgate Road – Belton

This is a particularly well used road within Belton to both residential and business locations. There are reports of vehicles who travel along this road when they are not permitted to do so because of the weight restriction in place and those that break the speed limit. Together with out partners we are addressing the issue and an increase in roads policing officers in the area has been requested. We have received concerns from residents about crime issues and that some residents are establishing a Neighbourhood watch scheme which is encouraging and will be fully supported by the Neighbourhood team. Two males have been arrested for 2 dwelling burglaries and a theft from this particular area which occurred in January 2010.

Priority 2 – Community Engagement

Continued improvement in Community Engagement. One of the greatest challenges for the Local Policing Team in such a rural location is to effectively collate the concerns of all aspects of the community. With a significant proportion of the village’s residents not getting actively involved in community politics or activities the team have been working on other methods of engagement. This has included regular school visits and attendance to local events. We have also conducted our first ‘walkabout’ surgery, where we met with local people out and about in Epworth on Thursday 25th March between 3pm and 4pm. We have received very positive feedback regarding our hi-visibility in the town on that day and our engagement with both businesses and the community. I would like to encourage anyone who is out and about on the following dates and locations to speak with us about your community.

Priority 3 – Stool Close Road, Belton

This small development of residential properties has been subjected to reports of anti social behaviour, neighbour disputes and crime. There is a neighbourhood watch group for the area, who together with other partnership agencies are working together to reduce the calls for service to the area and to identify and deal with any offences both criminal and civil and to improve residents’ quality of life. The Neighbourhood Watch group are also actively seeking ways to reduce crime and have taken advice on CCTV systems and the use of Smartwater. There are no set times for this behaviour and both Neighbourhood and incident response officers are aware and will attend this particular area.
