Ferry News & Appeals
Priorities / action taken
Ferry Ward Update
For the second month running it was again unanimously decided at the last Ferry Ward Neighbourhood Action Team meeting that there are no new key priorities for our area, and no past ones needed reinstating.
This continuing positive news reflects the proactive approach taken by your local Policing team in regard to reports of anti-social behaviour in our area. In order to avoid any possible reoccurrence we have, and will continue, to regularly patrol these areas. Equally we have, and will continue, to keep an eye out for any developing hotspots, and if necessary these will be adopted as new key priority areas.
In the meantime if you do see anything untoward, or believe a location is experiencing an escalation in anti social behaviour, then please do not hesitate to contact us by dialling 101.
Offenders Brought to Justice
Road Traffic Offences
A male in Goxhill had his motorcycle seized for failing to have a valid vehicle excise license under a new “no tax” seizure scheme being piloted in the Humberside Police area in conjunction with the DVLA. In effect, once the relevant checks have been carried out, vehicles can be seized if found being used on the road and having not been taxed for a period of over two months.
Theft from Motor Vehicle
Two males were arrested in Ulceby for the offence of Theft From a Motor Vehicle.
Criminal Damage
A male has received a Police caution for committing the offence of criminal damage in Barrow upon Humber.
A male was dealt with via the Humberside Police Discretion Policy for committing the offence of criminal damage in Goxhill.
Drug Offences
A male was arrested in Goxhill for the possession of a fire arm and also for being in possession of a class B drug.
Assault
A male was arrested for an assault in South Killingholme.
A female was arrested for an assault in Barrow upon Humber.
Patrol times & areas
East Halton
We have recently received a number of reports of youths riding illegal off road motorcycles in the area. These machines are not registered, taxed or insured. The riders frequently don’t wear helmets and as well as risking injury to themselves are a danger to other road users. If you see anyone riding such a motorcycle, please do not hesitate to contact us on 101.
We regularly patrol the area, and if anyone is found riding a motorcycle illegally it will be seized and crushed and the rider will be prosecuted for the relevant road traffic offences.
We have also received reports of 44 ton lorries illegally driving through the village. There is a 7.5 ton weight restriction in place which is being disregarded. Unfortunately some of the weight restriction signage is missing, notably when approaching from the direction of Thornton Abbey. Without the correct signage in place we are unable to prosecute any offenders, who may not know any restrictions are in place. This issue has therefore been brought to the attention of the Roads Traffic Casualty Reduction Officer and North Lincolnshire Council.
Goxhill
Recently an ornate cast iron metal post box was stolen from outside an address in Goxhill. It serves as a reminder that metal thefts are still a problem, locally as well as nationally, with items having been stolen from both residential and commercial premises. If you should see any vehicle or persons acting in a suspicious manner, then please do not hesitate to contact us on 101.
Whilst vehicle crime is relatively low in our area we are sadly not immune. Unfortunately a quad bike was recently stolen in Goxhill. We regularly patrol the area and if anyone is seen acting suspiciously they will be challenged and asked to account for themselves.
Barrow upon Humber
Despite previous advice, and a number of fixed penalty notice tickets being issued, we are still having problems with inconsiderate parking in Barrow Market Place. The road works that have resulted in the closure of the High Street junction with the A1077 will be in place for the foreseeable future and this makes it especially important that the access from Lords Lane and Green Lane is kept clear. We visit the area regularly and if offences are found we will continue issuing fixed penalty notice tickets.
South Killingholme
The businesses around both North and South Killingholme are still a target for criminals, with theft of metal and commercial burglaries being the prevalent offences. Recently a trailer was stolen from a business in North Killingholme. The Ferry Ward team frequently visit the area and if anyone is found committing any offences in this regard they will be dealt with accordingly. If any local resident sees anyone or any vehicle acting suspiciously then please do not hesitate to contact us immediately on 101.
Ulceby
Despite a large drop in the number of reports of anti social behaviour your Neighbourhood Policing team are regularly diverting to Ulceby to ensure that previously reported issues do not re-emerge and local youths seen out and about are being spoken to. If any offences are found they will be dealt with accordingly. If you come across any instances of anti social behaviour then please do not hesitate to contact us via the new Police non emergency number of 101.
Diesel Thefts - All Areas
Due to the current high cost of fuel we are still receiving reports of diesel thefts in the area. It is not only commercial and agricultural “red” diesel that is being taken; standard “white” diesel is also being stolen. We regularly patrol the area paying particular attention to the more remote and rural locations that are the main targets of criminals who engage in this type of activity. If any local resident sees any person or vehicle acting suspiciously in this regard, then please contact us immediately via 101.
Previous Priorities
April 2010
Priority 1: Parking – Slip Road – Killingholme
Several residents of South Killingholme have raised concerns about motorists using the slip road out side the fish and chip shop on the A160 dual carriageway to park up and go into the fish shop. The Ferry Neighbourhood Team is patrolling the area during the opening hours of the fish shop and speaking to motorists. Officers have also put out police no waiting cones on the slip road. We have contacted several haulage firms to report the problem and potential danger of their drivers parking on the slip road in order to enlist their support.
