Casualty Reduction and Roads Policing

Welcome to the Casualty Reduction and Roads Policing section, where you will find information about the work we underake to make the roads within the Humberside Policing area safer

Driving Safely

Driving safely is your responsibility.

In order to assist drivers and riders with this we have provided links to further guidance and information on issues such as the use of seatbelts and when to use child car seats.

Roads Policing

Humberside Police is determined to reduce the number of deaths, injuries and crimes on our roads.

We are responsible for policing the roads of the Humberside Policing area.  We aim to do this through:

  • Driver education schemes.
  • Speed enforcement, including: speed cameras and fixed penalty tickets.

Road safety and driving awareness campaigns

The Government’s casualty reduction targets for 2010, compared with the 1994-98 average, are:

  • A 40% reduction in the number of people killed or seriously injured in road collisions.
  • A 50% reduction in the number of children killed or seriously injured.
  • A 10% reduction in the slight casualty rate, expressed as the number of people slightly injured per 100 million vehicle kilometres.

A publication produced by the Department for Transport entitled Tomorrow’s roads – safer for everyone’ provides details of the casualty reduction targets for 2010.

As part of our work towards achieveing these Humberside Police takes part in a series of campaigns aimed at raising awareness in a variety of ways.

Working with our partners

In order to  achieve our aim of making our roads safer we are working with a number of partner agencies. You can also find out more about  the North Sea Freight Intelligent Transport Solutions - a system known as NS FRITS.  This is the first project of its kind, that will provide live in-cab communications in a series of languages of drivers, transport managers and freight handlers.
