Our Purpose

Our purpose is to make the communities served by Humberside Police safer.

In response to public concern we are committed to:

How will we achieve Our Purpose?

We will achieve our purpose by:

  • Listening to and responding to our communities effectively.
  • Clearly publicising when and how we can be contacted and keeping our promises in that respect.
  • Managing demand and expectation in an open and honest way. If we cannot do something, we will say so either from the outset or when we become aware that we cannot.
  • Ensuring that all of our policing services are provided in a fair way that does not discriminate against any group or individual.
  • Appreciating the people who work for and with Humberside Police, therefore ensuring that they feel valued, fairly treated and appropriately rewarded.
  • Maintaining a network of Neighbourhood officers who are well known by and committed to their local communities.
  • Forming partnerships at force and local level with communities and with voluntary and statutory agencies in order that, together, we can work more effectively in solving local problems particularly in respect of reducing incidents of disorder.
  • Ensuring the systems we have in place allow the communities we serve to hold us to account.
  • Applying the National Intelligence Model to deliver our policing services in an informed and directed way, using information and intelligence effectively and pro-actively to target, arrest and bring to justice those who commit crime and disorder.
  • Using our resources to best effect and taking a sustainable approach to delivering policing services long term.
  • Providing the highest level of protection to communities against major incidents and serious crime.
  • Targeting criminals and those responsible for anti-social behaviour in our communities or whilst using the roads.
  • Using education, as opposed to enforcement in order to raise driving standards, when appropriate.
  • Maintaining a strong commitment to achieving results and the consistent delivery of high levels of performance in respect both of national targets and those set locally by communities.
  • Readily accepting responsibility if we get things wrong, taking prompt action to rectify the situation and learning from our experience so as to provide a better level of service in the future.
  • Celebrating success whenever and wherever it occurs.
